TRAINING DAYS:
Every month, except May and December, Training Days are held on the third Sunday or as determined by the Board. Training days are a great opportunity to gain knowledge from experienced handlers and expose your dog to the excitement of shooting, other dogs and birds. Each training day will feature all skill levels - from puppy to advanced, Topics for training days vary from a simulated hunt test or fun test to upland, water and live-bird training. The fee for training days is very affordable and varies with the topic and location.
SPRING HUNT TEST :
Every May the High Flyers Hunting Retriever Club sponsors a UKC-HRC Hunt Test. The weekend is the culmination of a year of planning and training. Handlers and their families from all over the US and Canada attend. Designed to simulate a hunting scenario, these Hunt Tests are fun and are a challenge to both the handler and dog.
SUMMER PICNIC:
Strictly a "Fun and Food" get together, the Summer Picnic is a family and friends event held in either July or August.
ANNUAL MEETING:
Held in the first week of December the Annual Meeting is one of the most important meetings of the High Flyers' year and our membership is strongly encouraged to attend and participate. On the agenda that evening is the Election of the club's Officers and Directors. In addition, the Treasury report, the Committees' reports and the Officers' reports are presented recapping the year's Spring Hunt Test, Training Days, other events, expenditures and revenue. Afterwards, plans are promptly initiated for a smooth and timely transition of leadership and suggestions, ideas and tentative plans for the coming year are sought and brought to the table for discussion and/or action in the New Year.
AWARDS BANQUET:
Held after the Christmas and New Year's rush, the Awards Banquet is one of the highlight of our club's year. Another strictly social event, the banquet is for our members and their families and/or guests to gather and celebrate the past year's achievements afield. Our members and their dogs are recognized and awarded personalized plaques or certificates honoring their accomplishments of Hunt Test passes and titles. Individual members are recognized and thanked for their club service during the past year.
The most sought (and secretly coveted) honor is our infamous Dead Duck Award!
The DDA is presented to the club member who commits the biggest, funniest goof-up of the year within sight (or hearing) of a fellow club member.
